Cabinet approves common exam for engineer posts, age relaxation

Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh Cabinet on Monday approved the introduction of a common examination scheme for direct recruitment to the posts of assistant engineer and junior engineer under the state government.

The Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC), in consultation with the concerned departments, will finalise the syllabus for the examination. The Cabinet observed that the move would help expedite the recruitment process.

Chaired by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, the Cabinet also granted a one-time relaxation in the upper age limit for direct recruitment. The relaxation will allow candidates to apply for posts where earlier vacancy notifications—issued prior to 2024—have been or will be cancelled by the APPSC, subject to certain conditions.

In another significant decision, the Cabinet approved the notification of the Arunachal Pradesh Police Service (4th Amendment) Rules, 2025, amending the Arunachal Pradesh Police Service Rules, 1989.

According to a statement from the chief minister’s office (CMO), the amendment seeks to streamline cadre management, promotions and the rank structure within the state police force. It introduces a unified cadre for officers of the civil police, IRBn and AAPBn, designating all ranks from entry grade to special grade as Group ‘A’ gazetted posts.

The Cabinet also approved the creation of 280 new posts across various categories in the Public Health Engineering and Water Supply Department. The decision is expected to meet the aspirations of long-serving employees, facilitate fresh recruitments and improve the department’s overall efficiency.

Additionally, the Department of Finance, Planning and Investment made a presentation on the memorandum to be submitted to the 16th Finance Commission. After deliberations, the Cabinet approved the proposal.
