Banderdewa police nab 4 peddlers, seize 113g heroin in twin drug busts

Banderdewa: As part of the ongoing ‘Operation Dawn 2.0’ crackdown on drug trafficking, the Banderdewa Police on Wednesday arrested four interstate drug peddlers and seized over 113 grams of suspected heroin in two back-to-back operations.

In the first operation, registered under section 21(b) of the NDPS Act, police laid a naka at the Banderdewa check gate based on specific intelligence inputs.

Dongja Kabak (39), a native of Raga in Kamle district and currently residing in Nirjuli, was intercepted while riding a scooty. A search conducted in the presence of Executive Magistrate and independent witnesses led to the recovery of 30 vials containing 39.67 grams of suspected heroin.

In a separate operation later that day, police raided a hotel near Police Training Centre (PTC), Banderdewa following credible information about drug-related activities. The operation, resulted in the arrest of three individuals—Vikash Doley (26), Biswa Morang (28), and hotel owner Makan Doley (50).

During the search, police recovered 55 vials containing 73.55 grams of suspected heroin and Rs 14,060 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from drug sales.

The operations were led by Banderdewa Police Station officer-in-charge Inspector Kipa Hamak and included a team comprising sub-inspectors S K Singh, Koj Tada, N Bagang and L P Mema, ASIs A Rajbhar, T Kipa and S K Jha, head constable T Bomdom, constable R Tsering and lady constalbe Kago Yamung, along with personnel from the 138 Battalion CRPF.

The raids were carried out in the presence of executive magistrate-cum-circle officer Taba Milka and PTC vice principal DySP Matin Ratan under the supervision of Naharlagun SP Mihin Gambo and SDPO Rishi Longdo.

According to police, a total of nine NDPS cases have been registered in the past two weeks across various police stations in the Naharlagun ICR region, leading to the arrest of 19 drug peddlers.
