Autistic girl molested by neighbour in Itanagar; special educator engaged for court statement

Itanagar: A case has been registered at the Women Police Station, Itanagar here after a minor on the autism spectrum was allegedly molested twice by a 25-year-old neighbour, police sources said on Friday.

TThe accused identified as Jite Bui, and a resident of West Siang district has been arrested by the authorities, they said.

According to police sources, the girl, resides with her stepsister in Itanagar. Her family informed the authorities that Jite had molested her.

The victim alleged that Jite had sexually molested her on two separate occasions.

As per procedure, the girl was being taken to the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s (CJM) court on Friday for recording her statement.

“Given that the victim is an autistic child, a special educator is required to be present during the statement recording. However, Arunachal Pradesh does not have a government-appointed special educator at present, the source said.

To ensure compliance with legal protocol, the investigating officer hired a private special educator to assist in the matter, the source added.

Police became aware of the case four days ago but were unable to proceed with the statement recording due to the unavailability of a special educator.
