Changlang: The presence and movement of insurgents in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap, Changlang and Longding (TCL) region has declined significantly in recent times, though sporadic incidents of extortion calls continue to be reported, official sources said.
The information was shared during a high-level security review meeting held at the deputy commissioner’s conference hall here on Friday. The meeting, aimed at assessing the law and order situation in the TCL region, was chaired by Home Minister Mama Natung.
A status report on underground group activities and counter-insurgency operations was presented by Brigadier Sarabjeet Singh, Commander, 25 Sector Assam Rifles, Lekhapani. He highlighted the efforts of 9 Assam Rifles in containing insurgent movements.
Officials discussed measures to rehabilitate surrendered militants and integrate them into the mainstream. Suggestions to rebuild public confidence and support ongoing government initiatives were also put forward.
Director General of Police Anand Mohan, IGP (Law & Order) Chukhu Apa, IGP (TCL) PN Khrimey, DIG (Operations) CRPF Dibrugarh Prabhakar Tripathi, Col Dushyant Singh Lamba, CO 31 Assam Rifles, Dharmendra Kumar Singh, CO 186 Battalion CRPF Namsai, and Major Rahul Siddharth of 25 Sector Assam Rifles were among those present.
The meeting was also attended by the ADCs of Deomali and Kanubari, along with the deputy commissioner and superintendent of police of Changlang district.
