Lights, Camera, Itanagar! Kamsa Dramatics Society’s acting workshop eyes screen success

Itanagar: The Kamsa Dramatics Society is set to organise a five-day advanced acting workshop titled “Acting and Beyond” from April 22 to 26 at Slimnastic Studio, Raj Bhawan Road, Itanagar. The sessions will be held daily from 10 am to 4 pm.

Led by seasoned professionals, the workshop aims to delve into the true essence of acting—what it means to be a full-fledged actor, how to turn passion into profession, and the craft, discipline, and skill it takes to succeed on screen. Participants will be guided to step into their full potential, with emphasis on tools like body, breath, emotion, and imagination, improvisation, scene work, on-camera performance, and audition techniques.

The resource persons include Dr Meenu Hooda, Professor and Head of the Department of Screen Acting at FTII, Jote and Paalin Kabak, a renowned film actor and theatre practitioner from Arunachal.

With the Indian film industry witnessing increasing decentralisation, the workshop comes at a time when fresh voices from the Northeast are gaining visibility and reshaping cinema’s narrative. Auditioning opportunities are gradually expanding beyond Mumbai, with the Northeast emerging as a promising hub for regional talent.

“There has never been a better time for us to hone our skills, master the art of auditioning, and own the screen with confidence and presence,” the organisers said.

Founded in 2020 by Kabak, the Kamsa Dramatics Society (KDS) has been a catalyst for theatrical innovation in Arunachal Pradesh, working to engage aspiring actors and professionals from diverse backgrounds and bringing socially relevant stories to the stage.

Kabak, who completed his post-graduation in dramatic arts from the National School of Drama and received further training in film acting at Moonlight Acting Studio, New Delhi, has trained under prominent theatre and film personalities such as Bansi Kaul, Mariana Wainstein, Asif Ali, Jacquelin Roussety, Mahesh Bhatt, and Manoj Bajpayee.

As an actor, Kabak has worked in Bollywood productions including Bhediya directed by Amar Kaushik and Murder Mubarak by Homi Adajania. He also features in the upcoming third season of the acclaimed series Family Man, starring Manoj Bajpayee. His performance has earned him nominations for Best Male Debut at the Filmfare Awards 2023, Zee Cine Awards 2023, and Bollywood Film Journalist Awards.

The workshop is limited to 10 participants. For registration, interested individuals may contact +91-9928255759 or 8798396620.
